Manchester Man In Custody For Fatal Christmas Crash In Hartford: Police

HARTFORD, CT — City police Wednesday morning announced the arrest of the man believed responsible for the fatal Christmas night accident that killed a 14-year-old Middletown male.

According to the Hartford Police Department, Tyron Davis, 26, of Manchester, was charged Wednesday with second-degree manslaughter, three counts of first-degree assault, evading responsibility involving death, reckless driving, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Police said he is being held on a $1.25 million bond pending his next court appearance.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:18 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, in the area of Cornwall Street, just south of Hebron Street.

Police said Davis was driving a Tesla Cybertruck that slammed into a Toyota Camry occupied by family members going home from a family Christmas gathering.

The Camry contained four occupants, all of whom sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

One passenger, a 14-year-old Middletown High School freshman identified as Malachi James, was later pronounced dead.

His sister, niece, and father, meanwhile, were critically injured in the crash and are still recovering.

According to the HPD, Davis fled the scene before police arrived and, following an extensive investigation, a felony arrest warrant was obtained.

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, police said Davis turned himself in at the Hartford Police Department and was taken into custody.

"Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family during this difficult time," wrote the HPD.
