School Choice Options To Be On Display For Area Children Saturday

EAST HARTFORD, CT — State officials are hosting a special event this Saturday for parents and children regarding education options many might not be aware are available to them.

And they might just have some fun in the process.

The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) will host its "Spring School Choice Fair" on Saturday, May 6.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Connecticut River Academy at Goodwin University (9 Riverside Drive, East Hartford).

Through RSCO’s program, families with students entering Pre-K through Grade 12 can apply to attend free public schools outside of their home district. Those schools include:

The fair is the last in-person event for families to explore all of RSCO's school choice options before the 2023-2024 school year late application deadline on Sept. 15.

Attending families can meet with RSCO staff and school representatives to learn more about classes, sports, clubs and transportation, as well as receive application assistance.

The 90s/early 2000s-themed event will also feature a free basketball clinic with contests and prizes, as well as free food trucks, face painting and games, making it a fun day out for the whole family.
