Investigators found more than 18,000 images and 1,400 videos of child sexual abuse, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

LEDYARD, CT — A local resident, who was accused of having thousands of images showing the sexual abuse of children, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possession of child pornography.

Jason Gibson, 45, entered the plea in a proceeding before U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams in Hartford, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Gibson faces between 10 and 20 years in prison at his sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.

Federal prosecutors describe Gibson as a repeat offender. He initially was convicted in state court in 2020 for possession of child pornography, and after serving a prison term, he was released from custody in 2021.

In 2023, he was sentenced for violating his probation, and he was released again later that year.

In March 2024, state probation officers made a routine visit to Gibson’s residence and seized an unapproved cellphone with a dark web application, federal prosecutors said.

“Subsequent analysis of the phone revealed more than 200 child sex abuse images and videos, and numerous text messages with links to access child pornography on the dark web,” the U.S. Attorney’s office said, in a press release.

In April 2025, probation officers visited Gibson’s residence and seized an external hard drive. An analysis of the drive revealed more than 18,000 images and 1,400 videos depicting child sex abuse, federal prosecutors said. Gibson has been detained since that date.
