Ledyard Police Warn of 'Grandparent Telephone Scam'
In one call, the caller identified himself as attorney William Keeley from Atlantic City and claimed their son had been in an accident.

Residents are reporting a couple of different versions of a telephone scam sometimes referred to as the "Grandparent Scam".
In one case, the caller identified himself as attorney William Keeley from Atlantic City, N.J., claiming that the resident's son had been involved in an accident and needed $2,000.00 to get out of trouble.

The caller then requested the intended target purchase money cards and call back and provide the identifying numbers from the cards to the caller.
LPD had a nice conversation with the scammer today by calling the number provided to our resident. The individual claimed to be a publlic defender. When questioned further about licensing, location, etc, the individual promptly hung up.
