Ledyard Road Conditions Deteriorating; Multiple Accidents Occur

A rollover crash between Sawmill Road and Lee Brook resulted in a Route 214 road closure Monday, April 4.

The Ledyard Police Department is asking everyone to use caution, as road conditions continue to worsen. Police wrote:

"As of 2:25 PM, conditions on our town and state roads have deteriorated due to current rain/sleet which has caused icy road conditions in many areas of Ledyard. Ledyard Public Works and State DOT crews are out treating the roadways. LPD has investigated several minor accidents in this storm. Please use extreme caution in your travels today. This weather is expected to last well into the evening, ending around 11 PM.

Stay safe!"

Route 214 in the Iron Street section is closed due to a rollover crash between Sawmill Road and Lee Brook. Ledyard Police and Ledyard Fire and LVES are on scene. Police ask that drivers seek alternate routes.

"Please SLOW DOWN in these adverse road conditions," they wrote. "We have investigated several accidents today and some have involved injuries."

In Gales Ferry [see photo], traffic on Route 12 northbound is heavy Monday afternoon, due to a truck accident on I-95.

"Use caution and give yourself extra time if you are traveling this afternoon," police said.
