3 Rescued From Manchester Rooming House Fire, 17 Displaced

MANCHESTER, CT — A weekend fire left fire left 17 people displaced and another person in custody, authorities said.

The fire broke out at 11:01 p.m. at a 24-room tenement at 109 Foster St. and firefighters were alerted to the situation via an automatic alarm, officials said.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters encountered flames on the first floor. Three people were rescued after being trapped inside and one of them was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. One of those trapped was taken to safety via a ladder truck, officials said.
Though the fire was quickly extinguished, the building is presently uninhabitable and the 17 occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The Manchester Fire Marshal's office is investigating the origin and cause.
A resident was taken into custody and was being questioned by police, authorities said.
