MANCHESTER, CT — A new request for a variance has been filed to place an electronic message board at the front of the Manchester High School campus.

Back in April, a variance was not granted from a deadlocked Zoning Board of Appeals. What made the application cumbersome were zoning regulations regarding signs that were put in place well before electronic message boards were even a concept, according to the meeting minutes.

Manchester high school sits in a residential area at 134 Middle Turnpike East, which is one reason a variance is needed.

According to a rendering from the Manchester Planning Department, the new version of the message board would measure 4 feet, 2 inches high and 7 feet, 6 inches wide. The dimensions are slightly smaller than those noted in April. It would stand about 10 feet off the ground.

There is no regulatory timetable posted for the new submission.
