Manchester 2023 Election: Moran Takes Inaugural Mayoral Race

MANCHESTER, CT — It didn't take long for the first congratulatory social media post to come in for the first-ever direct mayoral election in Manchester — about 45 minutes after the 8 p.m. voting deadline.

"Manchester directly elected its mayor for the first time tonight. Congratulations to Jay Moran," said the Connecticut Democrats.

Indeed Moran won the inaugural Manchester mayoral election on Tuesday, but he ran unopposed.

Later Tuesday night, Moran showed his appreciation for the 6,610 votes.

"I'm humbled and honored to be re-elected Mayor. I’m also excited to be the first directly elected Mayor. I can wait to go back to work for the citizens of Manchester and keep moving our great community forward.

"It wasn’t just a landslide victory but a mandate from the people of Manchester."

Final vote totals will not be official until confirmed by the Secretary of the State's office, likely Wednesday morning.
