Person With Air-Powered Gun Prompts Lockdown At School In Manchester
A person with a pellet gun was taken into custody on school property Monday in Manchester, police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — A gun scare at a Manchester school Monday turned out to be someone wandering on the property with an air-powered pellet rifle, police said. Nevertheless, it caused a commotion.
At 1:18 p.m. Manchester police went to Verplanck Elementary School after receiving a report about someone near the playground carrying a rifle.
Verplanck was placed under lockdown while officers responded to the situation as a
"precautionary measure," police said.

Officers did locate a person with a gun — an Airsoft rifle — and took the individual into custody without incident, police said.
Charges are pending, police said.

"Our top priority is the safety of our community, particularly our students. We commend the swift actions of the school staff, law enforcement officers, and all involved in ensuring the situation was handled promptly and safely. Additional police presence was provided at all the schools throughout the day," police said.
