$15.4M Awarded To Meriden Family After Woman’s Death: Reports
The family was awarded $15.4 million in damages by a jury in a medical malpractice case in connection with the woman's death.
MERIDEN, CT — The family of a Meriden woman who died after a medical procedure was recently awarded $15.4 million by a New Haven jury, according to multiple reports, including FOX 61.
FOX 61 reports the family of Maria Ocasio, who died in 2017 at the age of 57, was awarded $15.4 million in damages in a medical malpractice case against Meriden Wallingford Anesthesia Group in Meriden.
Ocasio visited Midstate Medical Center for a brief outpatient scoping procedure that required anesthesia, which was managed by the Meriden Wallingford Anesthesia Group.

The Record-Journal reports attorneys for the Ocasio family said she experienced a cardiorespiratory collapse during the procedure, which the medical team was accused of failing to appropriately recognize.
As a result, Ocasio suffered “catastrophic brain damage” and spent the last 30 days of her life in the intensive care unit, according to the Record-Journal.
