Why are you seeking this office?

I am running for re-election to continue to give back to my community. I am a life-long Meriden resident and strongly believe in public service. I have an optimistic view of politics and government and still believe that we can make positive changes to the lives of our constituents.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

Underprepared high school graduates for entry into the workforce is a big concern of mine. This can be addressed through the expansion of our technical high schools to allow for higher student enrollment and supporting additional funding to allow traditional public high schools to offer more courses geared towards student who are not pursuing college after graduation.

There have been an alarming number of deaths on Connecticut's roadways. Is there anything from a legislative standpoint that can be done to address that?

Given the number of younger drivers involved in accidents, I think we need to look at toughening the testing requirements needed to get a driver's license.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

My life-long commitment to the citizens of Meriden through my involvement in civic and political activities distinguishes me from other candidates seeking this office.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have served 10 years as a Commissioner for the Meriden Housing Authority, 13 years as Meriden's Corporation Counsel, and 4 years as a State Representative. These experiences make me uniquely qualified to serve in this position as they demonstrate that I have vast experience in government.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

Over the past 27 years I believe I have earned a reputation for fairness and working across the aisle for the betterment of Meriden and Connecticut. I listen to both sides before making a decision and do not let party dictate my vote. Some of my best friends in the Legislature are from the other party and my colleagues know me as being fair first and foremost. It is an honor to serve the citizens of the 82nd District and if re-elected I promise to continue to serve everyone equally and with care and compassion. I know that every vote I take will usually upset someone, but I let my conscience dictate my actions.
