Occupation:
IT Database Administrator - 5 years
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
My Grandfather was Mayor of Avon by the Sea, NJ for 12 years and City Commissioner for 8 years (city council equivalent)
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Meriden Planning Commission - Appointed
Why are you seeking this office?
I’m running because I seek to serve and improve my community. I’ve been involved with the Meriden Democratic Town Committee for a few years and I believe that the municipal level, is really where change occurs. If there are not politicians at the municipal level actually implementing changes, the larger bigger picture doesn’t matter.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Cost of Living. I think in general there is a cost of living crisis in the US but specifically with housing.
When I was a student at the University of Connecticut I rented an apartment for $1,000 a month, a fair price at the time. That same apartment is now renting for $1,700 a month. This is an issues that doesn’t just affect Students, it affects everyone. If you want to move, downsize, get a bigger house, or are a renter, you are stuck with rapidly increasing home valuations and rents which do not benefit you. I have used my position on the Planning Commission to advocate to zoning reforms that could help bring housing and business into the City and I look forward to continue this work would I be elected to City Council.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I think I bring a fresh perspective to City Council. I also have close working relationships with our State Delegation and would work collaboratively to better advocate for Area 3.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I think that kitchen table issues are top of mind for Americans at this time and that is my focus. It’s my goal to make Meriden a better place to live and work.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
In my role as an IT professional I was once a project lead for a project that had the valuation of approximately $1 million dollars. I have also been on projects where I have to coordinate upgrades of hundreds of devices.
Through my professional career I think I have demonstrated that I have the skills to quickly learn and make decisions that would be of benefit to the City of Meriden.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Taking the time to follow up with someone is often worth the effort.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I am always willing to answer any questions please feel free to reach out Facebook John Hauselt For City Council Area 3 or email via hauselt4council@gmail.com
