Driver Sought In Hit-And-Run Crash That Seriously Injured Pedestrian: Meriden PD

MERIDEN, CT — A 21-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle that left the scene Wednesday night in Meriden, according to police.

Police responded around 7:50 p.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck on the northbound side of Broad Street and Charles Street, according to Sgt. Stanley Zajac.

Zajac said the woman was crossing Broad Street in the crosswalk at Charles Street and was pushing a small cart with bottles. She crossed from the west side of the roadway, crossed both south bound lanes and traveled three-quarters of the way across the two northbound lanes when she was struck, according to Zajac.

Witnesses told police that a light-colored sedan traveling north on Broad Street struck the woman. The sedan slowed down in the northbound lane before leaving the area, according to Zajac.

The woman was treated at the scene by Meriden Fire and Hunter’s Ambulance and taken to Hartford Hospital with serious head and lower body injuries, according to Zajac.

Zajac said the evading vehicle is described as a light color (white, light gray, or silver) sedan with possible front right end damage and possibly a broken windshield. Several video surveillance cameras in the area have been identified, according to Zajac.
