4 Charged In Hidden Hookah Lounge Shooting: Middletown Police Dept.

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Middletown Police Department has charged four people in the shooting of the Hidden Hookah Lounge, police said.

On May 21, 2023, around 3:40 a.m. Middletown Police responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of Hidden Hookah Lounge, 695 South Main St., police said.

When officers arrived, they located one male victim, identified as 20-year-old Jonathan Semidey, in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

Officers immediately performed life-saving measures on Semidey and were soon assisted by medical personnel. Semidey was transported to Middlesex Hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced deceased, police said.

During the months-long, painstakingly detailed investigation, the Middletown Police Major Investigations Unit determined that multiple shooters fired multiple weapons, ultimately killing Semidey, police said.

Through their relentless efforts, detectives developed probable cause to obtain numerous warrants in this case, police said.

On Sept. 7, detectives from the Major Investigations Unit and the Middletown Police Street Crime Unit visited several locations around the state and made the following high-risk arrests, police said.

Akiel Booker, 25, of New Britain, was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, police said.

Booker was issued a court date of Sept. 8 and held on a $1 million court-set surety bond. Booker was out on parole at the time of the murder, and his parole was also remanded, police said.

Gene Daniels, 23, of Newington, was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, police said.

Daniels was issued a court date of Sept. 8 and held on a $1 million court-set surety bond.

Gianni Marmol, 27, of New Britain, was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, police said.

Marmol was issued a court date of Sept. 8 and held on a $800,000 court-set surety bond, police said.

Marmol had also been previously arrested by Middletown Detectives on July 27 for his involvement in this case and charged with hindering 2nd-degree hindering prosecution. He had been released after posting a $100,000 court-set surety bond, police said.

Mayraines Nunez, 22, of Hartford, was charged with 2nd-degree hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence, police said.

Nunez was issued a court date of Sept. 8 and held on a $100,000 court-set surety bond.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
