Armed Robbery Suspect Punches Clerk in Face: Middletown Police

Middletown Police conducted an investigation and arrested the suspect eight months after the alleged robbery.

On April 29, 2015, the Middletown Police Department responded to an armed robbery at M Mart, 221 Newfield St.

“The suspect approached the clerk with a large knife and ordered the clerk to open the cash drawer,” police said ina prepared statement. “Once the drawer was open, the suspect punched the clerk in the face. The clerk suffered bruising and a laceration from the assault. Officer Scheiner and his K-9 Otto conducted a track, which lead to a neighboring apartment complex.”

Middletown Police detectives arrived and processed the crime scene. Detective Louis Julia was the lead investigator for the case and followed several leads that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Gerald Boyd, 19, of 4 Parkview Drive, East Hartford. Detective Julia applied for an arrest warrant.

“Due to the diligent efforts by Det. Julia, Boyd was arrested on December 21, 2015,” police said.

Boyd was charged with:

  • Robbery in the first degree
  • Assault in the third degree
  • Larceny in the sixth degree

He was held on $100,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21, 2015.
