MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man is facing a felony charge as part of a state police investigation into the purchase of a vehicle with falsified documents at the expense of an unsuspecting "elderly" man, a warrant states.

The felony 63-year-old Charles Levey, is facing is third-degree identity theft charge — a felony — records show. He is also facing third-degree forgery and criminal impersonation charges, according to a warrant. Level posted a $10,000 bond and is due in court on April 9, state police said.

The warrant was served on March 28, records show.

According to a warrant, a relative of the "victim" approached state police on Nov. 24 and complained that Levey had used the man's identity to purchase a 2008 blue BMW 535, a luxury sedan know for its powerful engine. The red flag went up because the victim would not be able to purchase a car without out permission from a conservator, according to a warrant.

The victim also said he did not give anyone consent to purchase a vehicle, according to a warrant. Paperwork, however, showed the car was purchased in his name from a dealership in Portland, according to a warrant. The registration and title of the BMW were in his name as well, according to a warrant.

Video surveillance had been purged from the dealership after 30 days, according to a warrant.

Management from the residence of Levey, through, confirmed he was indeed driving a BMW, according to a warrant.

State police subsequently applied for an "elderly abuse" referral with the state Department of Social Services" and an arrest warrant for Level buying and registering the car under false pretenses.
