CherryBerry Benefit Nets $200 for Spencer School PTA

Middletown's newest frozen yogurt shop donated 20 percent of its sales recently to support the elementary school's parent-teacher association.

Middletown's newest frozen yogurt bar has a charitable mission and Spencer Elementary School's PTA is the latest recipient.

During a recent four-hour event, CherryBerry Yogurt Bar on Main Street hosted a  fundraiser in which 20 percent of all sales went to support the school's parent-teacher association.

Kevin Elak, co-vice president, says the Spencer School community helped generate almost $1,000 in sales between 4-9 p.m. that day.

The PTA uses the money to subsidize class field trips, provide an allowance for teachers to purchase supplies for their classrooms, buy new library books, upgrade classrooms with new technology and sponsor school events, Elak says.

"These types of fundraisers are a win-win situation for schools and business owners," he explains. "We help them by supporting their business on a night that might typically be slow. Also, businesses gain new customers at a fundraising event. They in turn support the school by donating a portion of their sales."

CherryBerry created a flyer which the PTA printed and posted as well as e-blasted to the Spencer School community.

After overwhelming customer support, CherryBerry presented $200 check to the PTA.
