Connecticut AFL-CIO Elects Middletown Woman as New Head

On Thursday, the Connecticut AFL-CIO convention delegates elected Lori J. Pelletier to the newly created position of Executive Secretary Treasurer, which will be the principal officer running the federation’s day-to-day operations.

Formerly, Pelletier served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the state federation for 14 years where she was the chief legislative advocate, representing the AFL-CIO at the Connecticut General Assembly on workers’ issues ranging from workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation to corporate accountability and workers’ rights.  

Before coming to the AFL-CIO, she worked for 15 years at Pratt & Whitney’s Middletown plant in the quality assurance department. She is the co-president of Pride at Work, an AFL-CIO constituency group that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workers.

"Lori Pelletier is an excellent choice to lead Connecticut’s AFL-CIO, and her selection is indicative of the new direction and face of the U.S. organized labor movement," Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said. 

"Including the voice of front-line workers is so important as we shape Connecticut's economy, government, and communities for the future.  I know how committed Lori is to fighting for working people, and I look forward to continuing our partnership with her and all the members of the Connecticut AFL-CIO.”
