Man Caught With 3/4LB Pot, $22K in Cash Gets 2 Years Probation

Matthew Waleski of Durham, who was stopped last April by Middletown Police while riding his motorcycle on Country Club Road, had marijuana and cash in his backpack.

A 24-year-old Durham man was sentenced to two years probation for charges stemming from a 2012 traffic stop in Middletown in which police found him with three-quarters of a pound of marijuana and $22,166 in cash, according to court documents.

Last April, Matthew Waleski of Roal Oak Circle was riding a motorcycle in the area of East Street and Country Club in Middletown when police pulled him over and found the contraband. The 1999 Suzuki GSXR 750 he was riding was seized.

Waleski, who is a chef at a Durham restaurant, pleaded guilty on June 6 to marijuana possession and interfering with an officer and was sentenced to one year probation for each charge. The original charge of possession with intent to sell was dropped in the plea agreement.
