Max the Dog Renews own License, Delighting Town Clerk Staff

Middletown is accepting dog license applications through June 30 for owners whose canines are six months or older.

Max the German Shepherd surprised the ladies of the Middletown town clerk's office Tuesday afternoon, as he trotted in to renew his dog license.

While his human Steven Clark filed the necessary paperwork, staff marveled at Max's glossy coat and fine manners as he quietly enjoyed a snack and lapped up water from a small plastic container.

Clark and Max are constant companions strolling Middletown's downtown and North End, where they call home.

Max's fidelity to civic obligation is a reminder to owners that the city is accepting dog license applications through June 30 for owners whose canines are six months or older.

Licenses are valid from July 1 to June 30 and the cost is $8 for a neutered or spayed dog and $19 for not neutered or spayed. (See the attached PDF, which can be downloaded and presented to the town clerk).

Owners must provide a valid rabies vaccination certificate and either a neutering or spaying certificate, if applicable. Cash or checks only are accepted. Applications may be filed in person or by mail at P.O. Box 1300, Middletown CT 06457-1300.

Those who do not license a dog before July 1 will be charged a $1-per-month late fee for each month a dog remains unlicensed.
