Mayor Ben Florsheim Wins Democratic Primary In Landslide

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim won 82 percent of the vote during the Democratic Party Primary in Middletown on Sept. 12.

The final voting result for the Democratic Party Primary was Florsheim, 2,218 votes, and Ed Ford Jr., 482 votes.

Ford received 18 percent of the votes during the Democratic Party primary.

In a statement via social media, Florsheim said he is proud to have earned the support to be the Democratic Party nominee in the November election.

“Throughout this primary campaign, I have had a chance to reflect on our success, opening the new Rec Center, a brand-new pool and splash pad complex, hosting the state’s largest Pride celebration and the way we pulled together as a community in the face of the COVID pandemic,” Florsheim stated.

Florsheim said he’s proud to receive the support but recognizes there’s work still left to be done.

“Investing our ARPA money into our community organizations, creating strong partnerships between mental health providers and our youth, and seeing the Riverfront master plan take shape,” Florsheim stated.

“Thank you to Middletown Democrats for placing your trust in me, and I want to recognize the efforts of my opponent, who raised important issues around youth endearment and communication,” Florsheim stated. “I am looking forward to continuing to discuss the issues that matter to Middletown voters as we move forward to facing our Republican opponent in the general election.”
