Middletown Arrests: Aug. 25 to Sept. 17

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

Sept. 17

TWO COUNTS FIRST-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — At 8:30 a.m., Ashley Chance, 27, of Lower Road, East Canaan, turned herself in on an outstanding warrant.

THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — At 5:50 a.m., Joshua M. Mendez, 24, of Caroldon Road was involved in a domestic fight with his wife after he came home early that morning and she confronted him over being unfaithful, the report says, and kicked him out of the house. Detectives say Mendez "ransacked" the home, picking up a porcelain globe a foot tall and threw it at her feet, cutting her toe and he shoved her.

Sept. 16

SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — At 2:54 p.m., Ricky R. Williams, 54, of Main Street was at Public Market on Main Street where he pushed his girlfriend while grocery shopping, according to the report, knocking her backward.

RISK OF INJURY TO CHILD, SECOND-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THREATENING — At 6:44 p.m., police were called to Russell Street about her neighbors yelling at each other after the woman returned a victim's cell phone that Anthony Jelliffe, 26, of Russell Street had smashed, according to the report. Jelliffe, the victim said, threatened to hurt her if she called police, and detectives saw two children and the mother at the apartment; the children were present during the argument, the report indicates. The kitchen cabinet had a dent in it, police say, where Jelliffe had smashed the phone. He said he was angry because the woman was texting another man, the paperwork says.

Sept. 12

TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — Abdul Gonzalez, 39, of Hunting Hill Avenue turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

DUI, EVADING RESPONSIBILITY — At 7:47 p.m., Carolyn L. Stokes-Lau, 45, of Orchard Lane, Middlefield, was involved in a car accident in the parking lot of Jerry's Pizza on South Main Street, then left the scene, according to the report. She was found 10 minutes later on Wadsworth Street by Forest Street, police say, and appeared to be intoxicated. She failed sobriety tests, had her license taken for 24 hours, and then admitted to drinking wine and taking four prescription medicines: Gabopentin, Adaran, Lexipro and Remeron.

Sept. 11

VIOLATION OF PROBATION — At about 12 a.m., Carlos R. Ortiz, 24, of Farm Hill Road was driving a Subaru IVW on Washington Street with a plate displayed in the windshield, according to the report, and was found with an outstanding warrant.

Sept. 4

FAILURE TO SECURE CHILD UNDER FOUR IN CAR SEAT, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, AND WHILE USING CELL PHONE — At 5:14 p.m., Lawrence T. Stuckey, 35, of Plaza Drive was driving on Newfield Street near the Cromwell town line talking on a cell phone with a child not in a car seat, according to the report. His wife was called to retrieve the child.

Aug. 25

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES AND LESS THAN HALF-OUNCE MARIJUANA AND PARAPHERNALIA — At 3:43 p.m., Jacob F. Brockwell, 23, of Peck Road was driving a Ford Ranger pickup on Newfield Street at Washington with expired emissions and no front plate, according to the report. When stopped, the officer smelled marijuana in the car and Brockwell admitted to having a "little molly" in a cigarette case — a crystal version of ecstasy which weighed 1.5 grams, and 7.6 grams of marijuana in a jar, according to the report.
