Middletown Police report the following incidents:
July 31
DISORDERLY CONDUCT — At 9 p.m., police were called to the Auto Store II on Newfield Street by a woman who said her husband, Ammar M. Abushaqra of Wynwood Drive, Cromwell, was assaulting her in a BMW in the parking lot, according to the report. When officers arrived, Abushaqra had taken the couple's 2-year-old son inside the car dealership and the wife said while she was driving and didn't want to go to the Auto Store, Abushaqra grabbed the keys from the ignition and pushed her up against the driver's side door several times. According to the report, Abushaqra's brother was a passenger and officers had trouble understanding him because they didn't know Arabic. Abushaqra said nothing happened between them and said his son was crying because he didn't want to leave with his mother. DCF was alerted about the child being present during the argument, police say, and when Abushaqra was given his court date, he said, "I can't go, I'm buying cars at an auction tomorrow, you couldn't ask me what court date I wanted." The officer explained to him that domestic incidents require a court date the following day, according to the report.
