Middletown Arrests: Sept. 21 to Oct. 2

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

Oct. 2

FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS, BREACH OF PEACE, FIRST-DEGREE UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT — At 7:30 a.m., Robert A. Chisem, 43, of Mile Lane turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

Oct. 1

FIRST-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR — Kirel I. Cherry, 23, of Burr Avenue was picked up on an outstanding warrant.

BREACH OF PEACE — At 6:44 p.m., Bonnie L. Tasoulas, 49, of Joelle Drive, Portland, was among a group of intoxicated people at Spear Park on Main Street, according to the report, who were yelling loudly. An officer saw Tasoulas punch a man in the face and then fall on top of him and when the officer pulled her off the victim, she fell on the ground.

Sept. 28

PATRONIZING A PROSTITUTE — Albert R. Buonanni, 76, of Miner Street was arrested after patronizing a prostitute on Pearl and Grand streets from his Toyota Corolla, according to the report. Police had many reports over the past two weeks about a woman who matched the informant's description. 

The woman told police she has a drug problem with pills and uses illegally, the report says, and sells sex to support her habit. She told police Buonanni had been her customer several times in the past, according to the report, and he gave her $20 for sex, but refused, saying she didn't prostitute anymore and only wanted a couple dollars for pills. 

Buonanni told officers she asked him for money and he offered $20 but not for sex, according to the report.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — Shane R. Paluszewski, 27, of Silliman Road, Wallingford, was arrested.

Sept. 24

OPERATION UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, INSURANCE COVERAGE FAILS MINIMUM, OPERATION IN VIOLATION OF LICENSE CLASSIFICATION — At 6:56 p.m., Dwight Mendoza-Ortiz, 41, of High Street was driving on Spring Street.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER — Louis G. Palmieri, 26, of Birch Road, Rocky Hill, walked past police headquarters on Main Street with an open 24-ounce beer in a brown bag, when an officer witnessed him and Palmieri denied it, according to the report, adding police had no reason to stop him. 

The detective told him he could proceed if he poured out the beer, told the officer he didn't have a beer and refused to provide identification, then, the report says, refused to turn over the beer, insisting it wasn't alcohol. His breath smelled of alcohol, the report says, and told the officer he could' open his wallet without permission. 

He's a felon convicted for possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, the report says, and he refused to answer questions, insisting he was homeless, then swore at police and asked for a cigarette for "severe nicotine addiction," and when told he couldn't smoke "appeared to force himself to hyperventilate," the report says. When told to stop playing games so he could be released, his panic attack ceased. 

Sept. 21

SECOND-DEGREE BREACH OF PEACE — At 10:17 p.m., police were called to Los Primos Grocery Store on Main Street for a fight between Dante Smith, 31, of Hillside Avenue and Robert Young, 46, of Markham Street according to the report. An officer stopped at the light saw a small crowd gather around the two as Young was holding a garbage can lid and Smith punched Young so he swung the lid at him. 

An unidentified man, police say, punched Smith in the head and Young was intoxicated and uncooperative. Officers apprehended Smith after a foot chase. Video footage showed Young and a woman arguing in the store, police say, and a man argued with Young, who pushed him. Both men were taken to Middlesex Hospital. Both men were charged.
