Middletown Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing 3 Banks In 2022: Feds

The banks robbed were People's United Bank branches in Stop and Shop supermarkets in three towns, officials said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man has admitted to robbing three People’s United Bank branches in 2022, federal authorities said.

Gino Rizzo, 29, of Middletown, pleaded guilty on July 25 to bank robbery, federal authorities said.

According to court documents and statements, Rizzo robbed People’s United Bank branches in Stop and Shop supermarkets in Glastonbury on July 16, 2022, Newington on July 18, 2022 and West Hartford on July 20, 2022, federal authorities said.

Rizzo was charged on July 21, 2022, officials said.

On April 11, 2023, while on pre-trial release, Rizzo disconnected his GPS electronic monitoring bracelet and absconded from his court-mandated rehabilitation center, federal authorities said..

Rizzo has been detained since his re-arrest on May 22, 2023, federal authorities said..

He is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 17, when Rizzo faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years, officials said.
