We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "Trees and bushes blocking our sight-line into intersections. You have to be halfway out into the intersection before you can see if cars are coming."
  • "Yes, the traffic. People run stop signs all time in residential areas."
  • "Running stop signs and cutting cars off. I leave work from downtown at 3 p.m. and I've seen so many school buses cut off cars and these buses are packed with kids. The other day I saw two buses, one right after the other cut people off. One ran a red light and the other make a left turn cutting off the car in front of me."
  • "I live in a apartment complex and those FedEx and UPS trucks fly up the hill. And a lot of children crossing street or playing in lots dodge their trucks. And the speeders up and down Woodbury apartments and others at high speed."
  • "Homeless, addicts wandering our streets with no where to go. I was approached 2 days ago in front of my house, and on Main Street had another slam right into the back of my car and damage my vehicle!"
  • "Speeding (specifically: Newfield St, Westfield St, Stack St, Spring St and residential neighborhoods) lack of crossing guards (MacDonough School at Spring and High Streets & Stack and Grove Streets)"
  • "That ridiculous curvy mess they made of High Street."
  • "Route 17 to Route 9 north on ramp many rear end accidents."
  • "No sidewalks, speeding & reckless driving"
  • "Not enough crossing guards"
