Middletown School Field Named After Late State Representative
The multi-purpose field has been named the Quentin Soldier Williams Field in honor of the late State Representative.

MIDDLETOWN, CT – The multi-purpose field at Beman Middle School has been named the Quentin Soldier Williams Field in honor of the late State Representative.
“This is a small honor in comparison with what we are trying to honor here, but there was very little that Q was more proud of than his Middletown Public School pedigree,” Ben Florsheim said, Middletown Mayor.
State Representative Quentin “Q” Williams was killed in a wrong-way crash on Route 9 in Cromwell on Jan. 4.

Williams, 39, was a Democrat representing Middletown in the 100th District. He was one of two drivers killed in the crash. His vehicle was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver, according to Connecticut State Police.
Aside from the renaming of the multi-purpose field, Middletown Common Council proposed a dedicated scoreboard and standing plaque be installed.

“This is a small honor but a big honor for us to have the scoreboard and standing plaque be ready in the fall,” Councilman Eugene Nocera said.
The renaming, scoreboard and standing plaque were all approved unanimously by the Middletown Common Council on Aug. 7.
“When I was Mayor, Q was in eighth grade, and everyone knows what happens when you’re in eighth grade in Middletown. You come to city hall, meet with council members and directors, and come to the mayor's office,” Maria Holzberg said.
Holzberg said she was excited to meet with the eighth graders during their visit to the council chambers while she was mayor, and that is when she met Williams.
“Q sat in the chair, took up the gavel, and started to spin wildly in the chair cracking up the entire group that had assembled there,” Holzberg said. “I wanted to thank you for doing this for him.”
