MIDDLETOWN - Woonsocket won the Rhode Island state American Legion championship Sunday and will join the eight-team field on the Northeast Regional Tournament which opens Thursday at Palmer Field in Middletown. The final entry, the Maine champion, will be determined this afternoon at 2 when Westbrook plays Windham in Augusta. The field includes Colchester, VT, Rochester, N.H., Branford, CT, Barnstable, MA, East Side of Worcester, MA and host team Middletown.
