Obituary: Frank Thigpen, Sr., 81, of Middletown

Frank, a loving and devoted family man, worked for Monsanto in Deep River and Continental Can in Portland for many years.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Doolittle Funeral Home) Frank Thigpen, Sr., 81, of Middletown died peacefully on December 25, 2021. He was born in Fostoria, Alabama to Sallie and Earnest “Mutter” Thigpen.

He met, fell in love, and married Barbara “Edith” Campbell Thigpen and was married to her for 54 years.

Frank lived in Middletown for over 50 years and retired from Monsanto in Deep River, CT and Continental Can in Portland, CT

Frank is survived by three daughters: Deaconess Valarie (Anthony) Brown of Odessa FL, Michelle (Robert) Thomas of Clearwater FL, and Latoya (Jeffrey) Thomas of Largo, FL. Sons: Curtis Lee Thigpen Sr. of Middletown, CT. Ernest Thigpen Sr. of Windsor, CT. Ernest (Keana) Thigpen Jr. of New Britain, CT.

Five sisters: Bessie Dunklin of Birmingham, Alabama, Cora Jenkins of Middletown, CT, Rev Dr Annie (Curtis) Mack of East Hartford, CT, Agnes Patricia Hogan of Bloomfield, CT, and Deacon Celia Thigpen of Middletown CT. One brother: Fred (Denise) Thigpen of Birmingham, Alabama.

15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He leaves a host of nieces, great nieces, and nephews, and countless family and friends. One dear friend that he always asked about was James Nelson Smith who would visit him at the medical center.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents: Earnest and Sallie Thigpen, one sister Hattie Moorer, his wife Barbara Thigpen, two sons Julius Thigpen and Frank Thigpen Jr, granddaughter Tamisha Thigpen, and daughter in-law Priscilla Thigpen.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Avenue, Middletown.

Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday morning before the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Zion First Baptist Church.
