Obituary: Joseph Edward Hills, 36, of Middletown

Joe was known for his smile, kind heart, positive personality, hardworking character and love and devotion to his daughter and family.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home) Joseph (Joe, Joey) Edward Hills, 36, of Middletown, died Tuesday January 4, 2022 at Middlesex Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on October 27, 1985 in Middletown, son of Christine (Johnson) Cameron and the late Edward “Cowboy” Hills. Joe attended Vinal Technical High School where he studied electrical and auto body.

He was a graduate of Middletown High School class of 2004. He also played football and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.

Joe was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16 and valiantly battled the disabling effects of the disease for 20 years.

He was determined to and succeeded in maintaining his independence.

Joe’s most recent work history was in construction and landscaping but was forced to give up the work he enjoyed due to his health.

Joe was very knowledgeable with auto mechanics. He was there to help family and friends with auto repairs or whatever else people needed him for.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his mother Christine (fiancé Tim Driver); daughter ”his Big Girl” Julianna Hills, the light of his life, of Middletown; a special boy Jayden (who was always in his heart); brothers Jesse Cameron (companion Daizmin Griffin) and their son Braxton of Canton; Ronald Hills of East Hampton; maternal grandmother Linda Pipitone (Terry); great-aunt and Godmother Janet Perretti of Oxford, MA; uncle Chuck Johnson (Joan) of Providence, RI; stepmother Andrea Hills and stepfather Joe Cameron both of Middletown.

He also leaves behind other close family members and many faithful friends, especially Jack who he hung out with on a regular basis.

He was also predeceased by his grandparents Edward and Sadie Hills; brother Robert Hills; grandfathers Charles Johnson and Joe Marrocco.

Joe will be remembered for his beautiful smile, kind heart and positive personality.

Most of all he was the best Dad to Juliana. He was very proud of her academic accomplishments.

Calling hours will be held Monday January 17, 2022 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown with a funeral service following at 5:30 p.m.
