Obituary: Stanley J. Rys, 96, of Middletown

Rys was born in Middletown and served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Stanley J. Rys, U.S. Veteran

Stanley J. Rys, of Middletown, husband of the late Irene (Klimek) Rys, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016 after a brief illness at the age of 96.

He was born in Middletown son of the late, Michael and Mary (Sroka) Rys. Stanley attended St. Mary of Czestochowa School and was a graduate of the 1937 class of Middletown State Technical School, now called Vinal Technical High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy. He was employed by several small jobs and eventually retired from Pratt & Whitney after 29 years as the supervisor of toolmakers.

Stanley was a member of Pinehurst Country Club Senior Bowling Association, the bowling league of the Middletown Senior Center, the Polish National Center of Hartford, Inc., Middletown Polish Knights, the Catholic War Veterans’, and The Knights of Columbus. He also participated in many local baseball leagues and was a member of the American Legion.

Stanley will always be remembered for his enjoyment of playing cards, casino trips, pierogi making at St. Mary’s, Polish music, bowling, sports, dining out and baking at home. He loved his time with his family particularly his trips to their vacation home in Pinehurst, N.C., and the many trips to Cape Cod.

Stanley is survived by his children, Carol Ann Wabiszczewicz and her husband Atty. John Wabiszczewicz of Middlebury, Thomas J. Rys and Claire Haynes of Tyngsboro, MA; three grandchildren, Thomas J. Rys, Jr. and his wife Ursula of NH, Atty. Lisa Ann Wabiszczewicz and her husband Noah Schwartz of Southbury, Atty. John Wabiszczewicz II and his wife Brianna of Arvada, CO, four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Eva Schwartz, Linnea and Natalia Wabiszczewicz, as well as several nieces and nephews and a cousin Jeannette Faucher of NH and Kelly and Tammy of NH. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruno J. Rys.

The family would like to give special thanks to Joseph Catalano, Helen Rogalsky, Jeannette Bruce, Regina Klimek, Eddie Sipples, Bob Rahe, Patrick Rahe and all the friends at the City of Middletown Senior Center, St. Mary Church and Middlesex Supply.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday at 11a.m. at St. Mary Church, Middletown. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School Fund or St. Mary Church, 79 S. Main St., Middletown, CT 06457.
