PD: Home Invasion Suspect Found With Pot, $2K Cash Said Friend Supplied it for Bail

A city man who told officers he was booted from court that day because he was tardy for his appearance admitted to bringing marijuana into the courthouse.

A 21-year-old Middletown man stopped by police on Main Street for questioning about a crime told officers he had $2,000 in cash on him in case he was locked up after a court appearance.

On June 19 at 3:30 p.m., William M. Brown, 21, of Inverness Lane was stopped by police while walking on Main Street as a suspect in a home invasion that took place on June 14, according to the report. 

He was found with 1.3 grams of marijuana and $2,060 in $20 and $10 bills, the report says, and told police the money was from a friend in Glastonbury who gave it to Brown because he had court that day.

"Brown had the money on him in case he got locked up," the report says, but was turned away for being late. He admitted he brought the marijuana to court, 

He was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce marijuana and with intent to sell.
