PD: Man Who Led Police on High-Speed Chase Threw Heroin From Car

The 22-year-old had a cell phone on him, Middletown Police say, with many incriminating text messages from alleged heroin and crack cocaine customers.

A 22-year-old with a record who led police on a high-speed chase through residential streets before being caught had nearly $1,000 in cash on him and threw a bag of heroin packaged for sale from his car window, according to Middletown Police.

On June 8 at 7:44 p.m., Neil P. Brion, 22, of Newberry Way was driving an Infinity I35 sedan on East Street with plates in his windshield. The report says when the officer pulled out of the Westfield Fire station, Brion accelerated and sped away on Glenwood Terrace, Fieldbrook Boulevard and Newberry Way, squealing its tires and slamming on the brakes. 

The report says a search revealed Brion had $975 in multiple denominations and told police he fled because he was on probation, although a records search showed he was not.

A search revealed copper wire mesh with crack residue, straws with brown residue, a cell phone that vibrated constantly with texts: "Hey whats good? R U coming … let me no cause if not I'll call someone else," "This ain't like you homeboy. I'm starting to be concerned. I hope you didn't get yourself ran up,"  "I got fish on the hook and everything. This don't look good homeboy," and "Yo answer your phone. I need some."

A woman walked up to officers and said she found a plastic bag with smaller plastic bags inside on the roadway, according to the report, which contained heroin in wax packages totaling 15.3 grams, but Brion denied throwing it out the car window.

Inside the car were the same black elastics found on the heroin packaged for sale, police say, and then he admitted to discarding the drugs, police say. 

He has two prior drug convictions for less than 4 ounces marijuana. On June 9 at 6 p.m., a female said she recognized the man as she had seen him on June 9 at 2 p.m. walking down the street with two other people but wanted to remain anonymous.

He was charged with: FAILURE TO DISPLAY PLATES, RECKLESS DRIVING, ENGAGING POLICE IN PURSUIT, ILLEGAL SALE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES, ILLEGAL POSSESSION NARCOTICS.
