Potential Standoff Resolved Peacefully In Middletown
A man "in crisis" caused a heavy police presence in Middletown Wednesday night, police said.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A potentially dangerous standoff in Middletown between police and a man suffering a mental health crisis was resolved peacefully Wednesday night, authorities said.
The incident began at 6:24 p.m. on Brooks Road, east of Bear Hill Road.
The initial report indicated the potential "presence of a firearm," and arriving officers discovered the man was positioned "deep" in a wooded area, police said. A perimeter was set up in the vicinity and those living nearby received a reverse 911 call advising them to shelter in place "to ensure the safety of residents and responders in the area," police said.

The situation was resolved without incident roughly three hours later and the man was transported to Middlesex Hospital for treatment, police said.
"We recognize the disruption this incident may have caused and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to our community," police said. "Our primary objective was to bring the situation to a safe and peaceful resolution, which was successfully achieved."

State police from the Troop F barracks, the Middletown Fire Department, and the Eversource response team all were involved, police said.
