Students Sent Home With CMT Scores This Week

Unlike the mailings of years past, Middletown Public Schools released individual performance scores on the Connecticut Mastery Tests to parents via a sealed envelope in children's backpacks.

Parents looking for their child's Connecticut Mastery Test scores should check their student's backpack as results were issued this week in a sealed envelope to students in grades three through eight.

Unlike past years, when the colorful four-page brochure was mailed to parents district wide, this year savings was achieved through elimination of postage fees.

An email sent was earlier this week out by Administrative Assistant for Central Office Technology & Special Projects Kathy Bengtson and a SchoolMessage phone alert from Superintendent of Schools Patricia Charles.

In March, Snow Elementary was among 17 elementary and secondary education institutions recognized by the governor for achievement on the CMTs.

In August, the state Department of Education said Connecticut students overall saw a hike in Connecticut Academic Performance Test scores, but a decline in the Connecticut Mastery Test scores.

Test scores among tenth grade students at Middletown High School in reading improved slightly over last year, while math and science declined and reading saw a very slight dip.

At the middle school level, Middletown students saw some year-over-year improvements, with some grades seeing a boost of students scoring at the goal level as opposed to just in the proficiency category.
