Candidate Profile: Andrew King, Milford Planning And Zoning Board

MILFORD, CT — As the 2023 municipal elections get closer in Milford, there are plenty of races with candidates who are eager to serve in elected office.

Milford Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will publish candidate profiles as Election Day draws near.

Andrew King, 52, is running for a seat on the Planning and Zoning Board in Milford as a Republican Candidate to represent the 5th District.

King has a B.S. in Education and is a certified real estate appraiser.

King’s family includes his wife Dawn, their son Misha and four dogs: Duncan, Parker, Annie and Jack.

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

No

Why are you seeking this office?

I love my City and I want to help. As an appraiser I know real estate and Planning & Zoning is where I can be most effective. Keeping Milford's historic charm and a great place for families to live and grow is important to me.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The balance of development in our City. Critical thinking and informed decisions need to be made on every development and building plan in our City with an eye towards the future. I plan to do just that. We can longer be a rubber stamp.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

My opponent is a good man and a smart person. Which are all excellent qualities. That being said, There is one difference I can site easily. That he can not out work me. I will be dedicated to the Planning & Zoning of The City of Milford. If the voters put their trust in me I will not let them down.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have 20 years experience in the real estate industry as a Real Estate Appraiser. I deal with zoning issues on a daily basis in my work. I am intimately familiar with the real estate in the City of Milford.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

2 things. If you want to be on time, be early. & Luck is being ready for opportunity when it comes your way.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I think globally and act locally. I may not be able to change the world but I can help where I live. I think I can be an asset to the City of Milford.
