Connecticut Young Professionals Host "Meet the Mayor" in Milford on June 9

Connecticut Young Professionals hosts "Meet the Mayor" to learn about what young people can do for the community.

Connecticut Young Professionals (CTYP) will host “Meet the Mayor” on Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Stonebridge Restaurant. Mayor Ben Blake will speak about initiatives the City of Milford is taking on to attract young professionals and how young professionals can get more involved with the City.

The event is intended to educate attendees about all Milford has to offer. The Mayor will address concerns and issues that many young professionals are facing.

“I look forward to meeting young professionals, both from Milford, and from outside of Milford, who are interested in learning about all our City has to offer,” Mayor Blake said.

CTYP held a similar event in the City of New Haven in February. Mayor Toni Harp shared her vision for New Haven and highlighted important ways in which young professionals could play a role in improving the City.

Formed in early 2014, CTYP is an organization for individuals between the ages of 21 and 40. CTYP is a platform used for establishing connections between young professionals in Connecticut, with an aim to build as large a network as possible and promote Connecticut as a destination for young people.

A similar idea led to Milford’s Economic Development Department’s formation of Milford Young Professionals back in October of 2014. The group held a series of initial meetings before the New Year and garnered substantial interest from young people in the area. In December, the President of CTYP approached Milford Young Professionals to learn more, and from there a natural partnership emerged.

Milford was the first city-specific board of CTYP, and now plans and executes its own events led by Milford residents, Ani Chaghatzbanian and Krista Ruggles.

“We are thrilled to be leading CTYP events in Milford, and we hope everyone will come out to enjoy downtown Milford, meet Mayor Blake, and network with a great group of people,” Chaghatzbanian and Ruggles said.

All are welcome to attend the event. Networking with the Mayor begins at 6:30 p.m., with formal remarks beginning at 7:30 p.m. For more information on this event, contact Jenna Lupi, jlupi@ci.milford.ct.us.
