Former Milford Officer Accused Of Stealing $184K: Milford PD

Around April 26, the Police Benevolent Association reported to the Police Department that funds had been stolen over several years.

MILFORD, CT — Peter Parks, 42, a former Milford Police Officer, has been accused of stealing $184,010.52 from the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Milford Police Department said.

Around April 26, 2023, the PBA reported to the police department that their president, Parks, had stolen funds from the PBA over several years, police said.

On May 2, 2023, the Police Department Internal Affairs Unit initiated an Internal Investigation into the conduct of Parks, who was being accused of misappropriating a large sum of money from the PBA, police said.

Parks was immediately relieved of duty, his police powers were suspended, and he was placed on administrative leave, police said.

Based on the findings of the internal investigation, Milford Police Chief Keith Mello recommended to the Board of Police Commissioners that Parks' employment with the police department be terminated, police said.

A termination hearing was scheduled to be on June 29, 2023, but earlier on that date and before the hearing, Parks resigned from the department, police said.

A criminal investigation was initiated by MPD, assisted by the Division of Criminal Justice, Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and the Milford State’s Attorney’s Office, police said.

A forensic fraud examiner from the Division of Criminal Justice reviewed the PBA financial records, conducted a financial analysis of those accounts, and determined Parks had misappropriated $184,010.52 in private funds from the PBA, police said.

On Nov. 27, a warrant was issued, and Parks was apprehended on Nov. 28 at 11 a.m., police said.

Parks was charged with 1st-degree larceny, and the court set the bond at $50,000. Parks posted bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on Dec. 26, 2023.
