DPW SMOKE TESTING
To improve sewer and drain service, on behalf of the City of Milford, Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. will conduct smoke testing of the sanitary sewer from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, from July 29, 2024, through September 6, 2024, weather permitting.

During the test, non-staining white smoke is introduced to the sanitary sewer system via a smoke-generating machine. White smoke will vent from holes in manhole covers located in the street and from plumbing vent pipes located on or near your roof surface.
THIS IS NORMAL AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE ALARM

Smoke should not enter your premises unless there is a dry trap in an unused fixture or a defect in your plumbing. You may wish to pour two gallons of water down your basement floor drain or unused plumbing fixture to ensure that the drain trap will be effective.
Should smoke be detected within your building, do not be alarmed. The smoke is NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING, and dissipates quickly through open windows.
If you observe smoke in your building, please tell the workers operating the test. If you are unable to do so, and you observe smoke, please call (860) 502-3582 and leave a message including your name, address, telephone number, and describing where you see smoke.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call (860) 502-3582 and leave a message, and someone will return your call. You are not required to be home during the smoke testing.
For non-emergency police matters, please call (203)-878-6551
