Milford Basketball Coach Placed On Administrative Leave: Schools

The school district has placed a high school basketball coach on leave while an investigation is conducted, officials said.

MILFORD, CT — School officials said a Milford basketball coach has been placed on administrative leave, and he was arrested last month.

Joseph Meade, 67, of Milford, is coach of the Foran High School junior varsity basketball team.

He was arrested Feb. 28 and charged with breach of peace, according to police. Police said Meade turned himself in on an arrest warrant.

Meade is accused of pushing a victim during a basketball practice Feb. 20, police said.

He was released on a promise to in court March 28.

Schools Superintendent Anna Cutaia released the following statement:

"Mr. Meade has been placed on administrative leave from the Milford Public Schools as this matter is under investigation. This is also an open police matter, and therefore we cannot share other specific details.

"We do not tolerate any actions that put our students at risk and in harm’s way. The safety and well-being of all students and staff is our top priority, so we took immediate action to protect our students."

Court documents list Meade as being represented by Milford law firm Larracuente & Goulden, who declined comment.

Information in the arrest warrant states that cameras in the gym caught Meade putting his hands on a 15-year-old player's chest and shoving him four-to-five feet backwards, News 12 reported.

Meade told his side of the story in the warrant, stating that he shoved the player to get his attention as the player was talking while he explained a drill, according to News 12.
