Girl Scout Troops from the St. Gabriel School assembled a sustainable vegetable and flower garden from scratch, and then gifted the garden to their school at an unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, May 26 at 1:30 p.m., Tracie Averaimo, troop leader and mother, said.
Brownie Troop 38322 and Daisy Troop 38386 came together to create the garden that will now be taken care of by students at the school in grades Pre-K to eighth-grade, according to Averaimo.

“The girls worked really hard and over time, they succeeded in creating a beautiful garden,” Averaimo said.
The troops received a grant from the Milford Rotary, Averaimo said. Grillo Garden Center donated the topsoil used to plant the garden, and donations from the Van Wilgens Farm and the Filanowski’s farm were also contributed.

“Our Brownies and Daisies have worked really hard on this garden, and they have done a great job,” Averaimo said.
Fresh grown vegetables from the garden will be donated to the St. Gabriel Church Food Pantry, according to Averaimo.
The flower garden was dedicated to Frank Zielinski, who used to take care of the school’s landscaping for many years and was a long-time parishioner at the St. Gabriel Church, according to Averaimo.
