Milford Mom Is 'Unselfish, Loving, Hardworking & Helpful'

MILFORD, CT— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Maria Walter who nominated Melanie Maguire of Milford.

What makes this Mom extra special?

I am nominating my daughter who has had a very rough couple of years. She lost her baby to brain cancer and accompanied her to St Jude’s in Memphis and stayed by her side through all of it. She has three other kids who she takes care of every day, plus works full-time as a nurse anesthetist. She is also an animal lover and has always had at least two dogs — mostly rescues. Somehow, with all the heartache she has endured, she manages to carry on. Thank goodness she has a wonderful and very supportive husband. She is very generous and is always doing good, especially helping those going through difficult times. She and her husband have set up a nonprofit organization to help families in Connecticut who’s kids are going through cancer treatment. The name of the organization is Fearless Finley.

Why do you feel this Mom deserves the spotlight?

She's unselfish, loving, hardworking, [and] helpful —a wonderful wife, mother, sister and daughter.
