Obituary: James G. McCarthy, Sr., 89, of Milford
James, a devoted family man, proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for many years as a metallurgist at Burndy Corp.
MILFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) On July 15, 2021, James G. McCarthy, Sr., of Adams Avenue, Milford, was reunited with his beloved wife, Laura, after a short illness.
Born May 26, 1932, in Elizabeth, NJ, to James and Alice Walworth McCarthy, Jim was a graduate of Milford High School, class of 1951.
On March 23, 1953, he and Laura Herbst married and began their life together.
Jim trained for Korea at Sampson Air Force Training Base in upstate New York and was known to say for the rest of his life, “I was never that cold in my life before or after”.
After serving with the United States Air Force in Korea, he returned home to Milford where he worked as a metallurgist at Burndy Corp until his retirement.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Laura; his parents, James and Alice; his sister, Alice; his brother-in-law, Ron; and his brother, Bob. He will be lovingly remembered for his enormous capacity for laughter and love by his son, James, Jr. of Washington, D.C.; son, Michael and daughter-in-law, MaryAnne of Newark, NY; son, William and daughter-in-law, Donna of Milford; and his two grandsons, Dylan and Jarret of Milford.
Jim’s family wishes to thank his nurses and aides from Constellation Hospice Care for their gentle, respectful care of him during his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT.
Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford, CT. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the charity of your choice in Jim’s name.
The family is being compassionately cared for by Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT.
