Southern CT Weather: More Thunderstorms Expected On July 4th

Thunderstorms and rain showers are forecast Monday night and July 4th in southern Connecticut, according to the weather service.

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut, as strong-to-severe thunderstorms are forecast Monday night and Tuesday.

Strong-to-severe thunderstorms rolled through Fairfield County and other parts of the region Monday evening, producing hail, strong wind gusts and downpours.

"Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible to develop this afternoon and evening," the weather service wrote. "There is the potential for a few of the storms to become strong to severe, with strong winds the main threat. In addition, heavy rainfall could produce areas of mainly minor
flooding.

"Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon. Localized to scattered instances of flash flooding are possible," the weather service added. "There is also the potential for a few of the storms to become strong to severe, with strong winds the main threat.

Independence Day: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 87.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
