SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut on Sunday for the chance of thunderstorms and sporadic heavy downpours.

The weather service wrote: "Showers and thunderstorms on Sunday will be capable of producing heavy downpours. This may result in flooding of urban, low lying or poor drainage areas, and small streams and creeks. At this time, the best chance for heavy rainfall will be Sunday afternoon and night as a frontal wave along a stalled out boundary potentially moves into the area. There is still a decent amount of uncertainty where the axis of heaviest rainfall will set up. The western half of the area is in a slight risk for Excessive Rainfall with a marginal risk elsewhere."

A flood watch has also been issued from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. "A slow moving line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across the watch area Sunday evening and night into the first half of Monday. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible with localized amounts of 3 to 4 inches possible. These totals may result in flash flooding of urban and low lying areas. In addition, some streams may reach flood stage.
