"An Air Quality Action Day means that Fine Particulates within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," the weather service said.
The National Weather Service's New York office, which includes Connecticut, said, "smoke from the Canadian Wildfires will continue to bring hazy skies to the region today. Air quality alerts remain for much of the area. Individuals sensitive to poor air quality, including the elderly and the young, should limit strenuous activities and their time outdoors."

The smoke is forecast to be around for most of the day.
And as for the holiday weekend weather forecast, it appears there will be isolated chances for rain showers and thunderstorms, but there will also be plenty of dry weather too. The best chance for some rain and storms appears to be Sunday and Monday.
"For the Holiday weekend, we transition back to muggier and unsettled...Tomorrow now looks like a dry day, so if you’re grilling or heading to the beach, the weather cooperates – this will likely be the best day of the 4-day weekend," according to WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. "Then, the chance for scattered showers and storms will increase Sunday, especially through the afternoon/evening hours. The humidity will be noticeably higher. Monday looks to feature more clouds than sun with isolated showers (perhaps some rumbles of thunder, but it won’t be a washout). For Tuesday, the 4th of July, it’s going to be warm and quite humid. For planning outdoor activities, you may want to have a “plan b” as isolated to scattered storms can’t be ruled out." (Watch the full WFSB 3 TV forecast here).
