Staneski Supports Concussion Safety Measure

State Rep. Pam Staneski supports a bill that expands concussion awareness to youth and parents involved in athletics.

A bill that expands concussion awareness to youth and parents involved in youth athletics was supported by State Rep. Pam Staneski, a member of the legislative Children’s committee.

“Giving parents or guardians information about the symptoms of a concussion, how to obtain medical treatment, and the overall risk of continuing to participate after sustaining a concussion is the right thing to do,” Staneski said.

The legislation, H.B. 6722, requires the youth athletic activity organizer to make the statement available when the youth registers for the sport and the statement must include information on concussion signs or symptom recognition, how to obtain proper medical treatment for someone suspected of sustaining a concussion, the nature of concussions and their risks, including the danger of continuing to engage in athletic activity after sustaining a concussion, and proper procedures for allowing the athlete who sustained a concussion to return to athletic activity.
