Strong Thunderstorm Moving Into Southern Connecticut Now
A special weather statement has been issued by the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: All weather alerts for southern Connecticut have expired, except for an air quality alert for Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for central Fairfield County and south central New Haven County until 6:45 p.m.
"At 454 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain in Ansonia. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1
hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring," according to the weather service.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Bridgeport, Milford, Shelton, Stratford, Trumbull, Monroe, Seymour, Orange, Derby, Woodbridge, West Haven, Ansonia and
Woodmont.
SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southern New London, central Fairfield, southern Middlesex and southern New Haven Counties through 5:15 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
"At 4:10 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Orange, or near Milford, moving east at 55 mph," the weather service said.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include: Bridgeport, New Haven, Milford, Wallingford, Norwich, Shelton, New
London, Guilford, Clinton, Groton, Old Saybrook, Durham, Salem, Chester and Newtown.
A Flood Watch is in effect until 7 p.m. for Southern Connecticut.
"Scattered axis of heavy downpours and thunderstorms will continue across the area into early this evening," the weather service said. "Additional basin averaged rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches is likely across portions of southern CT, with localized amounts of up to 3 inches possible. Elsewhere, and additional 1/2 to 1 1/2 inches is possible. Localized rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour are occurring with thunderstorm activity."
