UNCASVILLE, CT β€” A Mohegan Gaming proposal to build a casino in Manhattan has been rejected, according to The Associated Press.

A state-commissioned community advisory committee denied the proposal in a 4-2 vote Monday.

Mohegan had proposed a six-acre project near the United Nations headquarters called "Freedom Plaza."

Two other proposals, all vying to be New York City's first full-service casino, were also rejected, The AP reported.

In an effort to gain local support, the developers had committed to building 1,000 residential units and making community investments such as adding a museum, a community center, a daycare, and open space, according to News 12 Westchester.

The $11 billion project would have included hotels, retail, dining, entertainment, and housing.

In addition to its Uncasville location, Mohegan Gaming also operates a casino in South Korea.
