Man Burglarized Montville Gas Station, Resisted Arrest: Police

Police had been watching an area of Montville following burglaries of other nearby stores.

MONTVILLE, CT — A man was arrested on accusations that he burglarized a Montville gas station and fought with a cop, according to police.

A police officer was parked near the intersection of Route 163 and Route 82 at 1:15 a.m. Dec. 7 near Renaldi's gas station. The officer was there due to recent burglaries of stores in the area.

The officer spotted a white SUV pull into the parking lot. A man, later identified as Marcus Anton, 40, got out of the car wearing dark clothing, a hood, and a mask, according to a police statement.

The man then went into the store. The officer notified other officers and attempted to make contact with Anton.

The officer pulled his cruiser to the front of the store and saw that the front glass door had been smashed.

When the officer got out of his cruiser, Anton ran through the broken door and attempted to get in his car.

The officer then went after Anton on foot and used a taser to stop him, which proved ineffective. The officer then grabbed Anton as he opened the door and entered the SUV.

Anton resisted, fighting the officer until more officers arrived and took him into custody, police said. The officer was not injured.

A police investigation found that the license plates on the SUV were from another stolen vehicle and that the SUV had also been stolen.

Police said they found burglary tools and stolen items in the SUV.

Anton was charged with third-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, larceny of a motor vehicle, two counts of third-degree larceny, criminal trover, and interfering with an officer.

Police said releasing the information "was delayed due to other active investigations and more charges are pending from those investigations." The incident occurred Dec. 7 and the information was released Thursday.
